Photo by Jordan Strauss/Invision/AP LOS ANGELES -- Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman are reuniting on the big screen as the Owens sisters in “Practical Magic 2,” the sequel to the 1998 film that first paired the actresses nearly three decades ago.
The stars celebrated the film’s premiere in Westwood, where they welcomed On The Red Carpet's George Pennacchio after extending him a personal invitation.
“There is not this without this,” Bullock said, while gesturing to Pennacchio.
Kidman added, “Yeah. We were, like, ‘See you tomorrow night!’ And you looked shocked."
“And by the time I got to my car, I had an invitation,” Pennacchio said.
“See how it works with witches?” Bullock replied with a smile at the camera as Kidman playfully waved her hand.
In “Practical Magic 2,” Bullock and Kidman reprise their roles as the Owens sisters, who remain cursed when it comes to finding true romantic love.
A clip from the film references the family’s misfortune:
“They die a really horrible death. I mean, it’s just not great for the Tinder bio.”
Kidman said fans almost demanded they make this movie, and she's glad they did.
“When it's that loud and there was so much desire for it, and it's a fun movie, and it feels good," she said. "And, for me, a lot of times I've done films that are very heavy and difficult to promote. This is a joy."
The sequel centers in part on one of Bullock’s daughters in the film, who attempts to break the family curse to save the man she loves, played by Xolo Maridueña.
A clip from the movie shows the stakes of the struggle:
“It’s true. We are witches and the curse is real.”
Maridueña reflected on the long-awaited announcement of the project.
“It’s been a long time coming and now the cat's out of the bag, you know?” he said.
The film’s magical theme extended to the red carpet. Maridueña joked about a cat-themed accessory, while co-star Joey King embraced the spirit of the event by wearing wings.
“I’m going to fly home tonight after we're done here because I'm a witch. I can fly,” King said with a laugh.
Bullock said enjoying the filmmaking process has become essential to her.
“Time is really precious right now," she said. "I wasted it before. I'm not wasting it now."
She went on to say, "And I'm just going to save every single second and I'm going to try and see the beauty in everything, no matter what it is."
“Practical Magic 2” returns to theaters Sept. 10.
