The coaching staff at La Liga giants Barcelona do not intend to afford a call-up to Marc-André ter Stegen for the club’s upcoming pre-season training camp in England.
This comes with the German on the verge of a fresh departure from Catalunya’s capital.
After spending the 2nd half of last season out on loan with Girona, Ter Stegen was recently informed by Hansi Flick that he remains surplus to requirements in his squad for the 2026/27 campaign.
The 34-year-old’s entourage, in turn, set about finding a new home for their client. For several weeks now, Dutch heavyweights Ajax have been leading the race, viewing Ter Stegen as the ideal addition to new boss Míchel’s shot-stopper ranks.
And if the latest word stemming from the media on Sunday is anything to go by, then Ter Stegen’s move to Amsterdam now appears to be closer than ever before.
As per a report from Diario Sport :
‘Marc André Ter Stegen will not take the flight that will take the Barcelona squad to East Midlands airport on Monday to carry out the pre-season stage at St. George’s Park. The goalkeeper will continue in Barcelona with his training routines while waiting for his loan to Ajax.’
It is added that ‘only the fiscal and administrative details’ remain to be sorted between the parties for the transfer to be made official.
