On Monday, Phoenix Suns analyst Eddie Johnson revisited a bold claim made by Scottie Pippen in January 2025. Appearing on an episode of the “PBD Podcast,” Pippen argued that he is ahead of LeBron James from the standpoint of team success.
“I got six rings…You want individual accolades or you want championships? Because I didn’t chase mine.” [Timestamp – 12:47]
Reposting this quote on X, Johnson threw his support behind Pippen’s claim while invoking the name of the other legendary six-time NBA champion from Chicago.
“Why shouldn’t Scottie not claim he is the GOAT. He’s 6-0 too and that seems to be the only fight left against LBJ. MJ fans are not happy today.”
Among the three all-time greats he mentioned in his post, Johnson played against Jordan and Pippen many times in his own NBA career, which began in 1981 and lasted till 1999. During that time, Johnson witnessed Jordan and Pippen winning six NBA titles in Chicago.
The number of NBA championships won with just one team has been frequently cited in the GOAT debate pitting Jordan against LBJ. As far as “ring culture” is concerned, Pippen (who played alongside Jordan throughout the 90s Bulls dynasty) has a case to claim the title of GOAT as well.

For many fans, the Netflix documentary “The Last Dance” was their education on the legacy of Jordan. Now, it appears that a LeBron James documentary could be making its premiere sometime in the future.
Appearing this week on “Boardroom Talks,” the newly minted Philadelphia 76ers star teased a chronicle of his legendary career.
“I got a pretty good documentary in the works too. It is gonna be electric when I’m done with it.”
Ironically, James might very well be linked to the creation of “The Last Dance.” Back on June 22, 2016, LBJ and his Cleveland Cavaliers squad had their championship parade after a dramatic Game 7 victory in the NBA Finals. That was reportedly the day that Jordan gave his blessing for the team behind “The Last Dance” to use footage from the 1997-98 season for the Bulls documentary.
