LONG BEACH, Long Island (WABC) -- Nearly two dozen illegal guns and drugs were seized from a home in Long Beach after a month's long joint investigation with the Long Beach Police and the FBI.
"Guns and drugs are the poison that destroy our neighborhood, they fuel gang activity and put innocent lives in danger," said Nassau County District Attorney Anne Donnelly.
Donnelly announced the arrest of Charles Burns, who is facing 59 counts of drugs and weapons charges.
"My office and the law enforcement agencies represented here today are working together with an urgency to target those who threaten our communities with violence and drugs," Donnelly added.
The 43-year-old is known in the Long Beach community, according to the DA.
"It was indicated to us this person was dealing drugs in our community and that is what brought our attention to him," said Long Beach Acting Police Commissioner Richard DePalma.
"This investigation focused on individuals believed to be transporting cocaine, fentanyl, and other controls substances from queens to Long Beach," said FBI Special Agent in Charge Mike Ratta.
In March, Long Beach police requested the assistance of Nassau Police and the FBI. Early Friday morning, Burns' home was raided by the police.
Twenty-three guns, a large amount of ammunition and drugs, including fentanyl and cocaine were seized, according to Long Beach Police.
"They recovered a large amount of narcotics and over 100k in cash," said DePalma.
Burns lives near a school and a park on Reverend JJ Evans Boulevard.
"It's a terrible situation for people in the neighborhood, there's kids, a park right there, a church right there, a school right there in the smack of everything," said Rodey Cole.
Investigators are looking into the possibility of if any of the illegal guns were used in previous crimes. Two of them are ghost guns.
"No one has this amount of guns in their home unless they are selling them or lending them to people committing people committing illegal acts," Donnelly added.
Burns was arraigned on Saturday and pled not guilty. He is facing 25 years in prison if convicted.
