PORT HURON — Week 1 of the 2026 MHSAA football season is complete, but there's still some business to take care of.
That's right, it's time for the latest Times Herald Prep Football Player of the Week poll.
The format is simple: We'll publish a list of the top individual football performances from the past week. From there, it's up to you to determine which athlete is the Player of the Week.
Voting ends at noon on Friday, Sept. 4.
Want to nominate a player for a future poll? Email Times Herald sports reporter Brenden Welper ( [email protected] ) and let him know who stood out individually. Please submit entries by 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Below are the candidates for Week 1, listed alphabetically. The winner will be recognized in the Week 2 roundup.

Matthew Genereaux, Armada, running back: Genereaux rushed for 104 yards and three touchdowns in the Tigers' 28-14 win over St. Clair Shores Lakeview.
Jax Johnston, Port Huron, quarterback: Johnston finished 10-for-19 passing for 120 yards and one touchdown in the Red Hawks' 28-21 victory against Anchor Bay in double overtime . He also ran for 73 yards and two touchdowns.
Matt Koles, Cardinal Mooney, linebacker: Koles recorded a team-high 10 tackles in the Cardinals' 28-6 triumph over International Academy of Flint. He also caught an interception.
Jaxon Turnbull, St. Clair, quarterback: Turnbull totaled four touchdowns (three passing, one rushing) in the Saints' 56-0 win over Hazel Park.
