After two intense practices with the New England Patriots, the Eagles' starters are taking a seat in this second preseason game and turn the spotlight over to the backups and reserves.
Of course, the first time the reserves played in a preseason game, it didn't go so well. That's because neither quarterback vying for the backup job to Jalen Hurts in Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee did much to separate themselves as the Eagles fell 24-7 to the Baltimore Ravens on Aug. 15.
It's unlikely that new Eagles offensive coordinator Sean Mannion will open up the offense. But there is a purpose to the game for the Eagles.

That, of course, is to help settle some of the position battles, such as backup QB and perhaps give Michael Carter another opportunity to make headway in the battle for the second safety spot. Carter played in the first preseason game.
It also helps the Eagles evaluate others vying for 53-man roster spots. For them, this game and the final preseason game on Aug. 28 is their Super Bowl.

Eagles Preseason Training Camp Practice
The Eagles will hold a training camp practice at Lincoln Financial Field at 6 p.m. on Aug. 25. Tickets to the practice are $15.40 and can be purchased on the Ticketmaster website . Gates at The Linc open at 4 p.m. The workout will last two to three hours.
In addition, there are post-practice player autographs, Eagles alumni signing autographs, and family-friendly games and activities.
