The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback suffered the injury in a game against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 15, and had surgery performed the next day. Reports throughout the offseason indicated his recovery was ahead of schedule, and he was officially cleared for training camp at the end of July, roughly seven months after the surgery. He's been wearing a knee brace during practices, but all signs point to him being ready to roll by Week 1.
If there was any concern about what version of Mahomes we're going to get back, Chiefs All-Pro defensive tackle Chris Jones put that worry to rest.
"He looks like Pat Mahomes," Jones told ESPN's Dan Graziano . "It doesn't look like anything's changed. He's jumping around, being Pat. We've just got to get it going."

Last season was the first time in the Mahomes era we got to see what the Chiefs would look like without their franchise quarterback, and it didn't look good. Kansas City lost their last four games of the season once Mahomes went down with the injury, finishing with a 6-11 overall record — their lowest win total since 2012.
With Mahomes soon approaching 31 and Travis Kelce nearing the end of his NFL career, who knows how much is left in this dynasty. 2026 is a pivotal year, not just for Kansas City to prove they're still the team to beat in the AFC, but for Mahomes to show he hasn't lost a step and can continue leading this franchise into its next era.
He still has elite weapons in Kelce, Rashee Rice, Xavier Worthy and rookie Cyrus Allen, who's reportedly been a standout at camp, along with last year's Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker III. The offensive line figures to be improved as well, with Trey Smith healthy again, Creed Humphrey still playing at an All-Pro level, and last year's first-round pick, Josh Simmons, now with a full year under his belt.
If Mahomes is indeed back to his old ways, the rest of the NFL should be very worried.
