According to Matt Jones of KSR, Missouri forward Mark Mitchell is part of a lawsuit filed in Louisville seeking an additional year of eligibility for the 2026-27 season.
Jones reported that Mitchell’s involvement in the lawsuit could be significant for Kentucky because any injunction issued in the case would apply only in Kentucky. Jones also noted that Judge Brian Edwards could be favorable toward the players involved in the case.
The lawsuit states that Mitchell played at Duke during the 2022-23 and 2023-24 seasons before transferring to Missouri for the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons. It also notes that Mitchell competed against several players who received additional seasons of eligibility, including athletes who played five or six seasons.

According to the lawsuit, Mitchell is uncertain where he would play if granted another season and is currently limited in his ability to communicate with coaches under NCAA rules.
The lawsuit argues that the class of 2022 athletes are being treated unfairly because players from earlier classes received an additional season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The plaintiffs are seeking a restraining order and temporary injunctive relief, arguing they could suffer immediate and irreparable harm if they are unable to compete during the 2026-27 season.
Mitchell, a 6-foot-8, 220-pound forward, averaged 18.3 points, 5.2 rebounds and 3.6 assists per game at Missouri last season while shooting 54.7% from the field and 38.8% from 3-point range.
He was particularly effective against Kentucky. Mitchell scored 21 points, four assists and one rebound in Missouri’s 73-68 upset of Kentucky at Rupp Arena.
Kentucky got its revenge in the SEC Tournament, but Mitchell nearly led Missouri to another upset, as he went for 32 points and seven rebounds while shooting 13-for-21 from the field and 2-for-2 from 3-point range.
With Mitchell now seeking another year of eligibility, his situation will be one to watch closely. If he receives an injunction in Kentucky, the Wildcats could potentially become a major option for the veteran forward.
