Everton have moved to strengthen their engine room with the signing of Christian Norgaard from Arsenal on a two-year contract, in a deal reported by BBC Sport to be worth £7m. The 32-year-old Denmark international arrives with a clear brief, add control, leadership and reliability to a squad that has needed reinforcement in central areas.
Norgaard made 20 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal last season, although only seven came in the Premier League as they secured their first title in 22 years. His absence from the squad for the recent friendly against Real Betis had already pointed towards an imminent exit, and Everton have now completed the move.
From Everton’s perspective, the logic is easy to follow. David Moyes has been seeking experience after the departures of Seamus Coleman and Idrissa Gueye, while James Garner is set to miss the start of the season following groin surgery. In that context, Norgaard looks like a practical solution rather than a speculative one.

Our View
From an Everton perspective, this feels sensible, but hardly stirring. Norgaard is an experienced professional and there is obvious value in signing someone who understands the Premier League, especially with Gueye gone and Garner unavailable. Still, it is difficult to pretend this is the sort of signing that transforms the mood around the club.
At £7m, the fee is not outrageous, and there is every chance he proves useful over two years. Yet Everton supporters have seen enough short-term fixes to know that competence alone does not always move a team forward. If Moyes wants energy, discipline and leadership, Norgaard should help. If the aim is to lift the ceiling of this midfield, there may still be work to do.
The more encouraging point is what this says about squad planning. Hackney represents the future, George adds another attacking option, and Norgaard covers an immediate need. That mix matters. Even so, there is a lingering sense that Everton are once again shopping for stability rather than ambition. Maybe that is necessary right now, but fans will want to see signs of something more before getting too excited.
