Favourite Fury was back in the ring on Friday, beating Mariusz Wach in Thailand after the Pole withdrew with three rounds remaining, unable to take any more of the Fury dominance.
Just a day later, Joshua was back in action for the first time since two members of his team were killed in a car crash in December.
He was knocked down twice in the early rounds by opponent Kristian Prenga, before recovering to stop him in the second round in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
While the dust was still settling on the victory, all the talk turned to the all-British clash which could take place in November, with Wembley and New York's Madison Square Garden among the potential venues.
Both fighters have signed separate contracts with Saudi boxing chief Turki Alalshikh, but for a fight to take place in the UK, any plans to move it to a more global stage would require those contracts to be renegotiated.

The fight might be coming a few years later than many hoped, but despite the advancing years of both boxers, it still promises to be a fascinating fight.
Joshua will need to improve on his performance from last weekend because if he is knocked down twice by Fury, he could struggle to recover.
Those defensive frailties are no doubt why Fury is the standout favourite with the bookies, at odds of 4/7, while you can get 13/8 on a Joshua win.
It’s been a while since Joshua has been at his best and since a knockout defeat by Daniel Dubois back in September 2024, he has only fought YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul and the unknown Prenga.
Fury, on the other hand, has only fought twice since back-to-back defeats to Oleksandr Usyk. The first was a unanimous points win over Arslanbek Makhmudov before 46-year-old Wach retired after seven rounds last Friday.
Fury’s nous and know-how in the ring will make life hard for Joshua, who has suffered four defeats in his last 12 fights.
Four of Fury’s last five fights have gone the distance, with two victories and two defeats decided on points, so 11/4 on him winning by decision or technical decision looks a smart bet.
