England's Jade O'Dowda came up just short in her pursuit of Commonwealth Games gold as she took heptathlon silver in Glasgow.
The 26-year-old from Sheffield was a bronze medallist at the Birmingham Games in 2022 but needed to beat Northern Ireland's Kate O'Connor by 18 seconds in the final event, the 800m, to deny her the gold.
In the end, she crossed the line 2.28 seconds back, though clocked a season's best over the distance.
"It's my second senior medal and my biggest achievement so it's up there," said O'Dowda.
"I came here wanting to get at least a silver medal, I felt as though until yesterday [Tuesday] I was pushing Kate. I think I'm very happy."
O'Dowda's team-mate Ellen Barbour just missed out on the bronze, finishing fourth behind Tori West of Australia.
Elise Thorner secured a surprise silver medal in the women's 3,000m steeplechase and recorded a personal best time of 9:05.45 in the process as she came in just under four seconds behind Kenya's world champion, Faith Cherotich.
Ellis Kottas won a silver for England in the women's T54 1500m final with Scotland's Melanie Woods claiming the gold with a Commonwealth Games record time.
There was also a bronze medal for Kevin Santos in the men's T47 100m as he posted a season's best time but could not prevent an Indian one-two for gold and silver.
