See the full story · 1 sourcesIt was a good week for the Washington Commanders . On Wednesday, Washington agreed to a deal with four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs. On Thursday, the Commanders activated cornerback Trey Amos , edge rusher Dorance Armstrong, and punter Tress Way from the physically unable to perform/non-football injury lists after they passed their physicals.
Diggs practiced with the Commanders for the first time on Friday, and Washington was back in pads on Saturday. Unfortunately, Washington's feel-good week came to an end when left tackle Laremy Tunsil was injured in Saturday's practice. It was later revealed to be a torn pec, which will likely end Tunsil's season before it begins.
It was a brutal blow for the Commanders.
Amos was on the practice field for Washington on Saturday, his second day of practice this summer.

— Scott Abraham (@Scott7news) August 8, 2026 Before the Commanders hit the practice field on Saturday, head coach Dan Quinn said he expected Amos to be ready for Week 1.
"Week 1, yes," Quinn said. "So yesterday, two to three in each period, and we'll kind of go through that today. He's fit, he's strong, but we are gonna ramp him up. And so, it'll take into today, get some more into next week as we're going. But yes, I definitely expect him to be kinda like fully there in a normal seven-day process, probably."
However, at one point during Saturday's practice, Amos left the field. It was unclear what happened. It doesn't appear to be a serious issue, but Quinn doesn't speak again until Monday.

— Tashan Reed (@tashanreed) August 8, 2026 Amos suffered a fractured fibula in Week 10 last season and has been working his way back since. Amos is expected to start at outside cornerback for Washington. The Commanders lost one of their depth corners last week, when veteran Ahkello Witherspoon unexpectedly retired.
While much of the attention was on Tunsil's injury on Saturday, Quinn will certainly be asked about his second-year cornerback when he speaks on Monday.
