Kansas City's defense was without cornerback L'Jarius Sneed, pass-rusher Omarr Norman-Lott, and linebacker Drue Tranquill. Pro Bowl lineman Trey Smith was the lone non-participant among the Chiefs' offensive starters.
Sneed and Norman-Lott are said to be dealing with knee injuries while Tranquill and Smith are on the mend with back and hip injuries, respectively.
Beat writer Matt Derrick of Chiefs Digest was the first reporter to break the news of the veterans' status in a post to his Twitter account on Monday morning:
