The Boston Red Sox have not simply rescued their season. They have suddenly placed themselves alongside one of the greatest teams in franchise history. Boston completed a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox with a 4-0 victory Wednesday night at Fenway Park, extending its winning streak to seven games. More impressively, the Red Sox have now won nine consecutive series.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, citing the Elias Sports Bureau, this is the franchise’s longest streak of consecutive series victories in 114 years. The last Red Sox club to win nine straight series did so from Aug. 4 through Sept. 15 in 1912.
That team went on to win the World Series.
It is an astonishing comparison for a 2026 Red Sox club that appeared to be going nowhere only a few weeks ago.
Red Sox complete another remarkable transformation
Boston ended the first half with a 46-48 record and plenty of uncertainty surrounding its direction. At one point this season, the Red Sox were 32-46 and a staggering 14 games below .500.

That assessment changed quickly.
The Red Sox followed their slow start with one of the most dramatic turnarounds in franchise history. Wednesday’s victory improved Boston to 62-51, putting the club 11 games above .500 after it had been 14 games below.
As the Boston Herald’s Mac Cerullo detailed, the Red Sox became only the second team in franchise history to go from at least 10 games below .500 to at least 10 games above within the same season. The 1955 Red Sox were the only previous Boston team to accomplish it. The speed of the turnaround makes the run even more absurd. Boston went from 10 games below .500 to 10 games above in only 33 days. According to the club, only the 1978 Pittsburgh Pirates and 1916 St. Louis Browns made that climb faster in MLB history.
This is no longer just an entertaining hot streak. It is something baseball has almost never seen.

Boston’s 1912 team set an intimidating standard
Any connection to the 1912 Red Sox carries enormous historical weight. Fenway Park opened in April of that season, and Boston proceeded to finish with a 105-47 record. Pitcher Smoky Joe Wood went 34-5, while Hall of Fame outfielder Tris Speaker hit .383 with 222 hits, 53 doubles, 90 RBIs and 52 stolen bases.
The Red Sox eventually defeated the New York Giants in an eight-game World Series that included a tie in Game 2. It was Boston’s first championship since winning the inaugural World Series in 1903. Nobody should expect the 2026 Red Sox to duplicate the dominance of that legendary club. The current team still has considerable work ahead of it and remains locked in a crowded American League playoff race.
The comparison still captures how completely Boston has transformed its season. A team that once appeared likely to spend August looking toward 2027 is now in third place in the AL East and firmly involved in the wild-card chase. If the season ended today, the Red Sox would be preparing for another postseason matchup against the rival New York Yankees.
History also offers Boston a warning. The 1955 Red Sox surged from 10 games below .500 to 24 games above before collapsing late and missing the postseason. The infamous 2011 team similarly watched a seemingly secure playoff position disappear during a disastrous September. This year’s Red Sox cannot afford to treat their comeback as complete.
Still, nine consecutive series victories do not happen by accident. Boston has spent more than a month proving its turnaround is real, and Wednesday’s sweep delivered the most convincing evidence yet. The Red Sox now own a streak that had survived Babe Ruth, Ted Williams, Carl Yastrzemski, David Ortiz and four modern World Series championship teams.
That is not merely impressive. It is historic.
