Let’s try this again, shall we?
Monday’s scheduled series opener in Great American Ball Park between the Cincinnati Reds and Cleveland Guardians was eventually banged due to bad weather after an initial delay, setting the stage for a Tuesday chock full of baseball in the form of a day/night doubleheader. The first game – set for a 1:40 PM ET start – will feature All Star Chase Burns on the bump for Cincinnati opposite Guardians starter Slade Cecconi.
Coverage for this game was originally slated to be on ESPN and broadcast nationally, but the postponement/rescheduling means that this one will instead be carried by Reds.TV and MLB.tv. The same will be the case for the second game of the day, which is set for the originally slated 7:10 PM ET slot.
What will be interesting to watch is the team’s usage of the bullpen in the first game. Brady Singer had originally been scheduled to start on Tuesday, but he – along with the rest of the rotation – has been bumped back to Wednesday. Instead, the Reds will go with an ‘opener’ for the second game of Tuesday’s doubleheader in what appears to be a bullpen game. So, how many arms need to be used out of the bullpen behind Burns will be worth watching, though the Reds will have a 14th arm (27th man on the roster) due to the games on Tuesday being of the doubleheader variety.
Here’s how the Reds will line up behind Burns in Game 1 of the day:
