The Cleveland Browns were able to close out their 2026 preseason schedule with a massive victory over the New England Patriots on Thursday night, 37-13.
One of the main catalysts for the preseason victory was the outstanding quarterback play. With both Deshaun Watson and Shedeur Sanders resting on Thursday, fans received an opportunity to watch the other Browns ' quarterbacks one last time before the regular season. And it's safe to say that the quarterbacks did not disappoint.
Here are the grades for the Browns' quarterbacks against the Patriots on Thursday night.
Dillon Gabriel
2025 third-round pick Dillon Gabriel has been the forgotten quarterback on the Browns' roster this offseason, but he made his presence felt on Thursday night.
The former Oregon standout finished his final preseason contest with 186 passing yards and three touchdowns, while also completing 12 of his 15 pass attempts. His ability to effectively run head coach Todd Monken's offense was on full display, as he was able to complete multiple throws from inside and outside the pocket.

— Dylan Feltovich (@dyfelt) August 28, 2026 In addition to his strong showing on the stat sheet, Gabriel also looked very comfortable against the Patriots. When facing pressure, the 25-year-old was not afraid to step up in the pocket or take a hit to find an open receiver.
Unfortunately for Gabriel, his incredible performance on Thursday may not help his case for the starting quarterback role, but rather boost his trade value. In a perfect world, Gabriel would be an excellent backup quarterback who can steer the ship if the starting quarterback is hurt. But the current state of the Browns roster could force him out of Cleveland before the beginning of the regular season.

Taylen Green
After waiting behind the Browns' top three quarterbacks for the entire offseason, 2026 sixth-round rookie Taylen Green finally received his chance to play on Thursday night in the second half.
Green began his first two drives with horrible field position, but made the most out of his opportunity. On the second drive, the hyper-athletic playmaker broke off a massive 30-yard run to set up an eventual eight-yard rushing touchdown from Davon Booth.

— NFL (@NFL) August 28, 2026 In terms of Green's passing efforts against the Patriots, Monken kept the rookie in check for the majority of the contest. Green ended the night completing five of his seven pass attempts for 27 yards, with most of the pass game being geared towards the short game.
There is plenty to be excited about with Green - 6-foot-6, 230 lbs., and a 4.36 40-yard dash. But Green is still a work in progress, with Monken noting in the post-game press conference that he must continue to develop as a passer.
