Lincoln Riley finally breaks silence about viral brisket photo
USC's Lincoln Riley is one of the most accomplished coaches in college football, but when it comes to the kitchen, things are a little more open for debate.
Riley went viral in 2021 while the head coach at Oklahoma when he posted a picture of an Easter Sunday brisket he smoked on social media. Fans were quick to point out that the brisket, which had no pink coloration and looked fairly dry and unappetizing.
The brisket has been the subject of many a roast in the last few years, but Riley has finally broken his silence. In an interview with Pardon My Take at Big Ten Media Days, Riley defended his brisket and argued that the off-looking color was only the result of an unorthodox cooking technique.
“It’s actually one of my favorite stories," Riley said. "I’m not a great cook, but I think I’m a decent cook... My buddy has been telling me about doing this brisket... in a Worcestershire bath. I love Worcestershire on anything. The brisket is phenomenal, but it rips all the pink out of it because it soaks in this bath. So when I take the picture, I'm not thinking anything of it because the brisket was really, really good. I’m not a brisket aficionado, so I don’t have the pink right there on it, the smoke ring is gone because of the Worcestershire bath. That’s how the whole thing came about.”

Riley is trying to get over the CFP hump for the first time at USC this season, and perhaps he can also rehabilitate his image as a chef.
