It is easy to understand why, as they are currently in the tight wild card race in the National League. Because of this, they should be looking to improve their roster between now and the deadline.
Now, the Phillies are being connected to a notable trade candidate from the Toronto Blue Jays .
According to the New York Post's Jon Heyman, the Phillies are interested in Blue Jays outfielder Daulton Varsho.
"Daulton Varsho is among players who interest the Phillies," Heyman posted on X .
Hearing that the Phillies are interested in acquiring Varsho makes sense. It is clear that they could use another high-impact outfielder, and Varsho is exactly that when performing at his best. Because of this, it would be understandable if they struck a deal with the Blue Jays to land him.
If the Phillies acquired Varsho, he would give them another solid hitter for the bottom half of their lineup. This would certainly benefit a Phillies team that is looking to go on a real run this postseason.
Varsho has appeared in 96 games this season with the Blue Jays, where he has seven home runs, 26 RBI, and a .247 batting average. This is after he hit 20 home runs in just 71 games for Toronto last season. He also hit at least 18 home runs from 2022 to 2025, so he could provide Philadelphia's roster with more pop if acquired.
