The decision is notable because Wonder Man was one of Marvel Television's best-reviewed Disney+ series. The show holds a 91 percent critics score on Rotten Tomatoes and earned star Yahya Abdul-Mateen II an Emmy nomination. It also briefly cracked Nielsen's weekly streaming Top 10 originals rankings, reaching No. 8 after its January debut before falling out the following week.
“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. That’s life, right? Everything will shake out,” Abdul-Mateen wrote on Instagram on Thursday.
“I wanted to say thank you to everybody who WATCHED the show, ENJOYED the show, and SHARED that they enjoyed the show in some way or other. The show worked. And that’s my favorite thing about it.” He ended his message writing: “Thank you for watching… And uhh… See you at the EMMYS.”
While Marvel has released 12 live-action Disney+ series since WandaVision launched in 2021, only two have received additional seasons: Loki and Daredevil: Born Again . However, the Marvel remaining shows were conceived as limited series or have simply not received renewal announcements, rather than being formally canceled.
