Sadie Sink is in Spider-Man: Brand New Day , but has been tightlipped on who she’s actually playing. For some reason, Marvel still put her on the press tour where she had to just talk about the vibes of the film with zero specifics. As theories that she might be playing the telepathic mutant Jean Grey from the X-Men have circulated online, some members of the press have tried to get Sink to crack on the interview circuit, but she has not said a word about which character from the Marvel universe she’s playing in the MCU. Well, the movie is out this week, holding its premiere in Los Angeles last night, and in frame one, someone may have spoiled the character.
R&B artist Steve Lacy’s song “oh yeah?” is featured in Brand New Day , so he was naturally one of the folks present for the Los Angeles premiere. When he was chatting with interviewers, he was asked which character he was most excited to see in the movie, and was specifically asked not to spoil anything. Then, he decides to potentially spoil the only thing Marvel’s been trying to keep under wraps.
“Jean,” he says. “I like Jean. She’s the villain, but there’s a reason to her madness.”

Welp. I assume Lacy’s getting a stern call from Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige any minute now. Unless this is an elaborate misdirect, we now know who Sink is playing in the MCU. With rumors of an X-Men movie reboot following the events of Avengers: Doomsday and Secret Wars , I guess Marvel wanted to at least put one of the actors playing the next iteration of these heroes on the playing field before we see some of the old ones show up in Doomsday ’s big crossover event in December.
Whoever Sadie’s playing, early reactions to her performance in Brand New Day have been pretty glowing.
#SpidermanBrandNewDay goes without question that Sadie Sink is easily the newest and greatest star of the MCU. Her character easily has the most thought provoking character work ever put in a Marvel Studios flick well…ever. Can't wait to see what they do next with her. pic.twitter.com/8YO1LegLDM

Took some time for #SpiderManBrandNewDay to win me over, but once it gets going, what felt at first like an uninspired plot really came together. Review in 8 hours, but I will say that Sadie Sink is some of the most inspired MCU casting, maybe since Tom Holland himself.
