Jordyn Tyson's injury history has a new entry.
The New Orleans Saints rookie receiver is set to be sidelined with a hamstring injury as the preseason begins. Head coach Kellen Moore announced the news to reporters during a press conference on Aug. 14 .
"Jordyn has a hamstring," Moore said. "Something that we're going to continue to collect some more information just as far as what that timeline looks. He kind of got caught in a goofy spot."
The head coach said that the injury isn't related to Tyson's previous hamstring issues and wouldn't put a timeline on his return. Moore noted the issue could linger into Week 1, but the way the injury happened would likely have resulted in the same outcome for any other player.
“I think my understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn’s history,” Moore said. “Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this.”
Tyson was not going to play in the Saints' preseason opener on Aug. 15 in New Orleans against the Jacksonville Jaguars , meaning there are no game reps that the rookie will be missing out on.
While he will miss some valuable practice reps, Moore is leaving it to the experts to put together the timetable for a return.
"We've just got to let these experts evaluate this and then we'll put together a plan," Moore said. "Not going to jump to conclusions. I don't have a doctor in front of my name, so I'm not going to jump to put together a timeline on it."
Hamstring injuries are notoriously tricky, so Week 1 being in jeopardy doesn't come as a surprise. However, Tyson was plagued by the issue during his time at Arizona State, which figured to be something that could've impacted his stock in the 2026 NFL Draft.
New Orleans ultimately selected the receiver with the No. 8 overall pick in an effort to create a dynamic duo with Chris Olave .
