Yes, the Wolverines greatly underperformed compared to expectations with Sherrone Moore at the helm, but even so, despite his extracurriculars, Michigan managed to win eight and nine games in two successive seasons, having taken down some powerhouse programs in the process. Perhaps that speaks of the talent Michigan has, and if Kyle Whittingham can get the team to be more consistent with said talent, then the sky just might be the limit.

Can Kyle Whittingham lift Michigan into contender status?
It's about time we talk football at Michigan. It's been a rocky offseason in Ann Arbor. The Sherrone Moore era is finished, and athletics director Warde Manuel is in his final days, but lost in the news is Kyle Whittingham and his Wolverines. The roster is talented, yes, but Whittingham's steady hand -- a signature at Utah -- is sure to lead to positive results in his first season.
What has us most excited is the addition of offensive coordinator Jason Beck, who will try to propel quarterback Bryce Underwood , the former No. 1 recruit, into superstardom. Beck's offense is a quarterback's dream. Whittingham was a proven winner at Utah, so does this team have the makings of another? What does he like best about his new team?
If Whittingham can simply get the entire team to be consistent and get back to solid technique and fundamentals (as was evident under Jim Harbaugh but missing under Sherrone Moore), then it would simply help give Michigan a chance weekly, even against tougher opponents. That was a big reason why Whittingham's Utah teams were better than many gave them credit for, as they often beat more talented teams on the schedule, due to being solid in the trenches and in fundamentals. If Whittingham can get the same out of this Michigan team, then the sky truly is the limit.
