Porter, who was placed on the physically unable to perform list at the start of training camp with a back injury, has seen the cornerback market explode in the past several weeks, including the record-setting extension from Devon Witherspoon's deal with the Seattle Seahawks .
If the Steelers hope to extend Porter, prevent him from potentially holding out of games, and put some trade rumors to bed in the process, it isn't going to be cheap. But not signing him to a long-term deal would be a huge mistake .
