Monday was scheduled to be the final day for Luka Doncic's Los Angeles Lakers minicamp in his native Slovenia. It provided the team with an invaluable opportunity to start learning how to play with and be successful with each other, especially given all the new players it has.
The Lakers have added nine new players this summer and lost LeBron James, Marcus Smart, Rui Hachimura, Luke Kennard and Jaxson Hayes in free agency. The hope is that this minicamp will give them a head start once official training camp starts several weeks from now.
At that camp in Slovenia, Hall of Famer Dirk Nowitzki's shooting coach, Holger Geschwindner, was spotted, per Marc Stein.

— Marc Stein (@TheSteinLine) August 23, 2026 Nowitzki ended his career following the 2018-19 season, which was Doncic's rookie year. The two played together during that campaign on the Dallas Mavericks , and the two developed a friendship with each other.
Outside shooting is certainly an area in which the Lakers need to improve, but they may be better equipped in that category now than they were last season. The additions of Quentin Grimes, Collin Sexton, Sandro Mamukelashvili, Matisse Thybulle and perhaps Cameron Carr and Jaden Hardy will help Los Angeles space the floor better this coming season.
The hope also seems to be that Geschwindner will help Doncic with his own shooting. The superstar shot 36.6% from 3-point range last season, and he still seems to have plenty of room for improvement in terms of his shooting efficiency, even though he won his second scoring title with an average of 33.5 points a game.
