Former Penn State WR retires from the NFL
A former Penn State legend has decided to hang up the cleats. Allen Robinson, who played three seasons with the Nittany Lions , retired from the NFL yesterday after an eleven year career. In a time when Penn State was really struggling to find No. 1 receivers, Robinson was one of their most consistent, logging consecutive 1,000 yard seasons in both his sophomore and junior years. In the NFL however, it would be a journeyman career that saw high highs and low lows.
He was drafted into the league in 2014, to the Jacksonville Jaguars in the second round. He would spend the first four years of his career there, where he made a name for himself with 2,848 yards and 22 touchdowns. His most impressive year though was his second, when he earned a Pro Bowl nod. After this time, he found a new home with the Chicago Bears , where he may have been his most prolific.
While he didn't necessarily maintain the consistency he showed in the first four years of his career with Jacksonville, his time in Chicago was equally fruitful, to the point where he had 2,428 receiving yards. Unfortunately, that would preclude a massive decline in his career, which saw him bounce between three teams in three seasons, where he did not even eclipse 1,000 yards during that time.
To some, Robinson was more of a cult hero of the NFL rather than a bona fide superstar. Still, his stats point to a solid career of relative consistency. He compiled 7,058 yards and 43 touchdowns across 11 seasons, proving to be a reliable option for several teams. However, if you're a Penn State fan, you will perhaps remember him fondly for being one of Penn State's most prolific receivers of the 21st century.
