The Packers officially signed former Florida safety Trey Dean III on Tuesday after releasing tight end Drew Biber and guard Karsen Barnhart to make room on the roster. In addition to Dean, the franchise welcomes another defensive back in Tra Fluellen.
Dean spent five seasons with Florida, earning an All-SEC Freshman Team selection in 2018. He appeared in 61 games during his career, starting 41, and recorded 167 tackles, 8.5 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, four interceptions, two fumble recoveries, and a forced fumble. His shining moment with the Gators came in 2020 when he intercepted Alabama quarterback Mac Jones' pass in the SEC championship game.
After going undrafted in the 2023 NFL Draft, Dean joined the New York Jets as a free agent and spent his rookie season on the practice squad. Later, the Hampton, Georgia, native spent time on Kansas City's practice squad and scrimmaged with the Browns in that same season.
Dean would turn to the UFL as a development pipeline. He played for the DC Defenders in 2025 before representing the Louisville Kings and St. Louis Battlehawks in 2026. The opportunity for Dean comes as the Packers deal with significant injuries in the secondary. The team fielded only five healthy options at safety before turning to the ex-Gator.
