How Lane Kiffin, LSU football are navigating loaded wide receiver room
BATON ROUGE – Jayce Brown. Eugene Wilson III. Jackson Harris. Malik Elzy. Winston Watkins Jr.
These are just a few of the wide receivers first-year LSU football head coach Lane Kiffin and his staff pulled out of the transfer portal this offseason, a plethora of guys that were either the focal point, second or third option for their previous teams.
In total, LSU gathered nine transfer receivers to fill out a depleted position group following the departure of former coach Brian Kelly and his coaching staff during and after the 2025 season.

Adding that number of players at one position group is an anomaly, Kiffin told reporters following the team's fifth practice of fall camp that because of it's his and his staff's first year in Baton Rouge, the transition is happening at the same speed for the players and coaches.
"I think it would be a bigger deal if we'd been here. If you think about it, all the players really, whether they were here or not, are new to us offensively," Kiffin said Monday.
Throughout the first week of fall camp, the first five practices as of Aug. 10, Brown, Watkins and Elzy have flashed in the small viewing periods the media has had. But coaches are also very high on Wilson, Harris and a number of other wide outs.
Kiffin said the receiver room has been retooled from top to bottom. The additions have been working and impressing.
"It's been very competitive. It's really one of the better rooms from the bottom of it, you know. The competition down there and the quality of it, which is important because not just do those guys play, but even below them, that's what makes your practices better. They're the service team you're going against. We try to make every slot on the roster better every change we have."
