Now that the Los Angeles Rams made Ty Simpson the 13th overall pick in the first round of the 2026 NFL Draft, the QB is the new kid on the block. Just 23 years old, he has a lot to learn as he embarks on his NFL career.
Based on his latest comments, Simpson’s homework could include brushing up on the NFL’s storied history.
Why Chiefs Fans Are Taking Aim at Rams’ Ty Simpson
Even though Simpson likely won’t face the Kansas City Chiefs often in his Rams career since they’re in different conferences, the QB already had a chance to play at the legendary Arrowhead Stadium in the Rams’ preseason opener.
Yet, the first-year Rams QB wasn’t impressed with GEHA Field, which has served as the home of the Chiefs dating back to 1972.
On Saturday, Simpson got a chance to make his home debut at SoFi Stadium for the Rams’ second preseason game. Afterward, he was asked his opinion on the differences between the Chiefs’ Arrowhead Stadium and SoFi, which has served as the Rams’ home field since it opened in 2020.
That’s when Simpson said playing at Arrowhead felt like a “college” stadium compared to SoFi, which he says has more of an “NFL” feel to it.

“Arrowhead’s kind of like a college stadium in a sense of the college environment outside,” Simpson said. “Here, it gave a really good NFL vibe.”
Of course, Chiefs Kingdom didn’t take kindly to Simpson’s remarks.
One fan reacted on social media by playing into the fact that Simpson is as green as it gets by NFL standards.
“ He’s 10! What does he know? ”
Another urged Simpson against making up his mind so quickly, pointing out the major differences between a preseason and regular season matchup at Arrowhead.
“ Haven’t experienced Arrowhead during the regular season . Loud mouth [expletive].”
Meanwhile, one commenter was quick to note that Simpson will get a chance to see how passionate Chiefs fans can be when Andy Reid, Patrick Mahomes and Co. travel to SoFi on Dec. 3.

“The Rams’ co-tenants at SoFi are the Chargers. They play at Arrowhead Sept 30. He should ask his buddies how they ‘like’ the ‘college stadium’ after THAT game. And btw, SoFi will probably be ‘Arrowhead West’ after Chiefs fans swarm for the December 3 game v his Rams.”
Another Chiefs fan quickly defended the legendary Arrowhead stadium, alluding to a raucous atmosphere that’s led to a world record of 142.2 decibels in 2014 .
“ Loudest stadium IN THE WORLD that literally has the fourth highest seating capacity in the NFL but this dude said it felt like a ‘college stadium’. SoFi doesn’t compare; it holds 6,000 less people, and opposing teams’ fans fill that stadium before Rams fans do.”
One commenter suggested it’s “so easy to hate” the entire Rams team, and Simpson’s comments only stir the pot.
“ It’s so easy to hate this whole team lmfao .”
Meanwhile, one commenter simply said, “ Lmao… k .”
Clearly, the NFL community feels like Simpson doesn’t know what he’s talking about here, and chances are the next time he heads to Arrowhead, he’ll come away with a different opinion because the fans will bring a bit of extra juice, thanks to the bulletin board material he just provided.
