Midway through the Washington Huskies ' third spring practice, redshirt sophomore running back Jordan Washington suffered a serious enough injury that forced him out for the remainder of camp—and potentially the entire 2026 season.
The 5-foot-10, 181-pound bundle of electricity proved to be a serviceable backup behind veteran starter Jonah Coleman last fall. Against Purdue, Washington rushed for a career-high 108 yards and one touchdown—including a 68-yard score that put the Huskies ahead 21-0 midway through the second quarter—on just five carries.
In total, the second-year running back finished 2025 with 233 receiving yards on 27 carries with his one touchdown against the Boilermakers. With Coleman off to the NFL, 2026 was viewed as a potential breakout year for former Long Beach Jordan High School product, even with the transfer additions of seniors Trey Cooley and Jayden Limar.

UW coach Jedd Fisch stated after the Dawgs After Dark spring game that the staff, Washington and his family, and both team and independent doctors will determine his status for the 2026 season.
"No update," Fisch said when asked directly about the redshirt sophomore's status. "Everything is on schedule that somewhere, probably around July 1, we'll make a decision—not we as in me—but we as in the medical staff, the physicians--both in this building and outside consultants—we'll make a decision on what his return to play protocol looks like. But right now the key is for him to just do what he's doing and he's doing it well."
Washington was in attendance at Husky Stadium on May 1 wearing a neck brace, walking along the sidelines before the spring game. This past week he shared photos and videos on his Instagram account without a neck brace, offering the thought: what could a healthy Jordan Washington mean for the Huskies?
With both incoming transfers, Cooley and Limar, also missing the entirety of spring camp while rehabbing various injuries, the door is open for any one of potentially five or six players to carve out a role for themselves, including Washington.
As the former four-star recruit showed in 2025, he doesn't require many touches to make a dynamic impact.
Should Washington's return-to-play protocol dictate he's able to hit the field early in the first week or two of fall camp, that would give enough time for Fisch and running backs coach Scottie Graham to have a better sense of how they'll use the eclectic mix of backs from the opening kickoff on September 6 against Washington State.
Fisch could optimize the California native into a potential Darren Sproles or, at his potential peak, a Tavon Austin or Percy Harvin-esque role as a dynamic playmaker with the ball in his hands--more often than not in space instead of between the tackles, while offsetting with Cooley or Limar, who are more traditional running backs in a pro-style offense.
As a senior at Long Beach Jordan, the 10.30 100-meter track star ran for 807 yards and 11 touchdowns on 80 carries, with an additional 782 receiving yards and 7 scores on 50 catches over 11 games. To do it in high school is one thing; replicating those numbers in college is a different feat, especially in the Big Ten.
To date, Washington doesn't have a single reception in his first two years of college. But as Fisch has proven at his previous stop at Arizona, year three could prove to be the year he unlocks the talented redshirt sophomore weapon, which in tandem with a few other key elements could wind up being the key to a potential 10-win season.
Without Washington, the Huskies will be more heavily reliant on the veteran transfers and one of the emerging underclassmen to carry the load next to quarterback Demond Williams Jr. on offense this fall.
