RB J.K. Dobbins returns to the Broncos as the starter with unfinished business

J.K. Dobbins is heading into his 7th season in the NFL with a checkered, injury-laden career to date. He spent his first four years in the NFL with the Baltimore Ravens, playing in just 24 games in his time there.
When healthy, Dobbins is an excellent NFL starting running back. He runs with power, has great vision, and is a capable blocker. The Broncos offense last season started hitting its stride midseason with Dobbins and was the best offense we’ve seen in Denver in a very long time in any consistent manner.
The question about his durability is still front and center. He’s on a prove-it deal with the Broncos. The Broncos shrewdly drafted a guy in Jonah Coleman who is more than capable of becoming a starting back just in case Dobbins misses time.
We’re all knocking on wood, throwing a pinch of salt over our shoulders, and hoping that Dobbins can stay healthy this season, as having a competent running game will go a long way to getting this team back into the playoffs for the third straight season.
Final Word
There is no doubt in my mind that Dobbins is at the top of the depth chart for the Broncos’ running back roster. He’s a talented ball carrier who forces defenses to stack boxes to slow him down. He churns out runs and is one of the guys I trust to be able to see blocks open up before they happen and hit the hole in time to crank out positive runs.
This is a make-or-break season for him at the end of the day. If he can just put together a healthy season for the first time in his career, it will silence a lot of the naysayers. More importantly, it will incentivize the Broncos to extend him to a longer-term contract.
