The Cessna 441, which took off from Anchorage earlier Thursday crashed about 12:15 p.m. local time, according to the FAA.
The plane was headed to the Cape Newenham Long Range Radar site, according to the FAA. The plane crashed west of the radar site's airport, the FAA said.
Alaskan Command issued a statement late Thursday saying that all eight people aboard the aircraft died.
"Guardian Angel personnel from the 212th Rescue Squadron confirmed there were no survivors," according to Alaskan Command's statement. "The names of the passengers and crew will be released 24 hours after notification of next of kin."
The National Transportation Safety Board will investigate the crash.
"I join Alaskans in offering condolences as we learn of the plane crash in Cape Newenham today," Alaska Sen. Lisa Murkowski said in a social media post, identifying the flight as one operated by Security Aviation, which offers charter flights throughout Alaska.
"I’ve traveled extensively with Security Aviation throughout Alaska, and have met many of their experienced pilots," Murkowski said. "I appreciate the U.S. Coast Guard, NTSB, Alaska State Troopers, and the Rescue Coordination Center for responding to the site. Alaska is praying for those on board, their loved ones, and the team at Security Aviation."
"Julie and I join our fellow Alaskans in praying for the families and loved ones of those who were killed today in a plane crash in Western Alaska," Alaska Sen. Dan Sullivan said in a statement. " I’ve asked for a briefing from the NTSB and the FAA as we all seek answers on what caused this horrific tragedy."
In a social media statement, Rep. Nick Begich said: "This is incredibly difficult news for many Alaskans, especially those in our close-knit aviation community. Dharna and I join Alaskans across our state in praying for everyone affected and the entire Security Aviation family."
Cape Newenham Long Range Radar Site is managed by the Pacific Air Forces Regional Support Center and is part of a network of remote radar sites that track aircraft operating in Alaska's airspace and along its borders, according to Alaskan Command.
