‘I know internally…’ – Reporter issues Alexis Mac Allister claim amid surprise Man City links
According to one reporter, Alexis Mac Allister is on a shortlist of potential transfer targets for Manchester City in the final three weeks of the window.
Enzo Maresca’s side aren’t the first Premier League club to be linked with a move for the Liverpool midfielder this summer, either – there were fleeting rumours last month that his former side Chelsea had been attentive to the Argentine’s situation at Anfield.
Murmurings over a potential switch to Real Madrid have continued to do the rounds as well, and the speculation over the 27-year-old isn’t subsiding amid his return to the AXA Training Centre this week, having come back from his post-World Cup holiday.
Man City add Mac Allister to transfer shortlist
Transfer reporter Ben Jacobs has now indicated that Man City have Mac Allister as a shortlisted midfield target alongside Adam Wharton and Enzo Fernandez, although that apparent interest hasn’t evolved into anything concrete as of yet.
The journalist told talkSPORT ‘s Transfer Insiders: “I know internally Alexis McAllister has been mentioned [by Man City], but there’s been no contact yet, or developments with Liverpool, so that’s just more part of a shortlisting process than anything to get excited about.”

No need for Liverpool fans to worry just yet
From Jacobs’ update, it seems that there’s no need for Reds fans to worry about losing our number 10 to one of our biggest rivals just yet.
The Etihad Stadium hierarchy will be very much aware of the rivalry which has developed between the two clubs over the past decade and that it’d take something extraordinary to happen for Liverpool to sell Mac Allister to Maresca’s side.
Nonetheless, with all sorts of speculation surrounding the midfielder after an underwhelming 2025/26 season by his standards, he could do with following up a strong World Cup with a string of consistent performances for his club in the early weeks of the campaign.
Andoni Iraola would surely be loathe to lose such a core first-team presence so late in the summer, especially if his midfield options are lessened by a potential move to Inter Milan for Curtis Jones, with the Serie A champions’ interest not going away .
Any attempt by Man City to snare Mac Allister in the final weeks of the transfer window would be audacious at best, and for now it’s near-impossible to envisage the Argentine swapping Anfield for the Etihad any time soon.
