Bayern Munich is now back amongst the big boys thanks to the intervention of Vincent Kompany, who was the club’s last pick to coach the team. The fate of the club was literally in his hands, and that was a huge influence in his work with the Rekordmeister so far
“I got to know many big teams. I played 11 years at City. But what Bayern means to Munich, to the entire region, to the fans has a lot of importance,” Kompany said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia ). “It’s a big responsibility. I felt that since my first day here, and it played a role in everything I did.”
The former Manchester City defender is fully aware that he wasn’t going to manage relegation fodder in the Premier League or one of the many Championship clubs. He was selected to manage the most successful club in Germany, and he knew he had to step up.
Step up he did, as Bayern became one of the top clubs in Europe after being in the trenches just a few years ago. The Bavarians can only go up from here, and that is thanks to one Vincent Kompany.
