Jaguars Announce Roster Moves Prior To Training Camp
The Jacksonville Jaguars made some moves to their roster ahead of training camp, which starts this week.

It was reported that the Jaguars announced today that they signed cornerback Corey Ballentine to a one-year deal, while fellow defensive back Dane Jackson was moved to the reserved/retired list.
Ballentine started his career with the New York Giants, selected in the sixth round (180th overall) of the 2019 NFL Draft. He was then claimed off waivers by the New York Jets in 2020 and spent the next season with the Lions. His longest tenure was with the Green Bay Packers in 2022-2024.
Ballentine last played with the Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots in 2025. Across seven seasons in the NFL, Ballentine has totaled 77 tackles, 57 of which are solo, nine passes defended, two forced fumbles, and an interception.
Now Ballentine is added to the Jaguars ' secondary and could be a depth/rotational piece for their defense.
Jackson, on the other hand, is retiring. Jackson signed a one-year $1.215 million contract with Jacksonville in June, but he's called it a career after nine seasons. The Buffalo Bills selected Jackson in the seventh round of the 2020 NFL Draft.
He spent four seasons from 2020-2023 with the Bills and then signed with the Carolina Panthers in 2024, but went back to the Bills last season. Over six seasons in the league, Jackson's accumulated 178 tackles and three interceptions.
Who Does Secondary have Now?
The Jaguars' secondary still has players like cornerbacks Travis Hunter, Tyson Campbell, Jourdan Lewis, Jarrian Jones, Montaric Brown, and others. They also have safeties Antonio Johnson, Eric Murray, and Rayuan Lane III.
There are veterans in the defensive back core, and they're solid all around. For Ballentine, it's about solidifying his role within that. Ballentine could be in the slot a bit and maybe outside. He could even contribute on Special Teams also.
Jacksonville's secondary was ranked 13th going into 2025, and now they're ranked 12th for this season. The Jaguars have one of the better defensive back groups in the NFL, and they could rank in the top 10 this year, given how much talent they have.
Jacksonville's training camp started this week, and there will be a lot of competition. He's on the 90-man roster, but for Ballentine, it could be an uphill battle. But his versatility on defense and special teams could be useful.
