Manchester United’s pursuit of a new left-back has repeatedly led back to one familiar name throughout the summer, but Newcastle United have consistently maintained the same position despite growing interest from Old Trafford.
That stance has not changed, but Sky Sports believes an extraordinary offer could get a serious conversation with the Magpies started.
During Tuesday’s Sky Sports’ Transfer Talk show, the broadcaster’s panel discussed what it would realistically cost Manchester United to tempt Newcastle into selling Hall. While one pundit initially suggested a fee above £50 million, that starting point was quickly raised.
“Way higher, I think. Way higher,” the panel responded. “It’s just because look at the market and the way it’s been set. I just think it would probably be £70 million-plus for Newcastle to sell.”

The discussion continued by arguing Hall’s value extends well beyond his age and current reputation, which are already two strong reasons for Newcastle to retain the defender.
“Lewis Hall is not £50 million. £50 million would be a bargain for him at this point, I think, with all the things you said and with the market set the way it is,” the panel said.
The latest comments come after a string of reports linking Hall with Manchester United. Earlier this week, The i Paper reported Newcastle consider the England international “unequivocally not for sale” and internally view him as “untouchable” under new head coach Matthias Jaissle.
Fabrizio Romano has also confirmed Manchester United have internally approved Hall as a target, although he has consistently stressed Newcastle have no intention of selling the 21-year-old.
Hall remains under contract until 2029, placing Newcastle in a strong negotiating position. The former Chelsea academy graduate has developed into one of the Premier League’s most promising young full-backs since completing his permanent move to St. James’ Park in 2024 for around £28 million, with his ability to play both at left-back and in midfield only increasing his value up to his current £34 million market value.
Even after the departures of Anthony Gordon, Sandro Tonali, and Bruno Guimaraes , Newcastle appears determined not to sanction another major sale involving one of its young cornerstones.
