See the full story · 2 sourcesAfter two hard days of practice, the New England Patriots eased their foot off the gas in terms of intensity on Monday. There was no competitive team period, and the practice was basically a walkthrough for the team.
So we're going to approach the Day 3 standouts a little differently than we did the first couple of days of practice. This time, we are going to focus on the players who looked to be in a better position as far as the roster is concerned than they were at the start of camp.
There is still a long way to go in training camp, but some players are beginning to pull ahead in certain areas of the roster.
Here's who stood out on Day 3:
WR Efton Chism III
After taking reps with Drake Maye earlier in the walkthrough, Patriots wide receiver Kyle Williams was not included among the six main wide receivers working with the Patriots' quarterback. Instead of Williams, second-year wide receiver Efton Chism III joined A.J. Brown, Romeo Doubs, Kayshon Boutte, DeMario Douglas and Mack Hollins.
If Boutte sticks around on the roster, Chism is making it hard for the team to move on from him. Could this be a situation where the Patriots carry seven receivers on the roster?
TE Eli Raridon
Patriots rookie tight end Eli Raridon has continued to get opportunities on the field as the No. 2 tight end option. With Julian Hill injured and Austin Hooper in Atlanta, it has paved the way for Raridon to jump into the deep end of the pool right out of the gate. So far, he has kept his head above water with his reliable hands and impressive athleticism for his 6-foot-6, 245-pound frame.
RB Lan Larison
Lan Larison was the forgotten name in the running back pecking order, despite flashing exceptional potential in training camp last year. However, a preseason injury ended his season prematurely and killed his momentum. It has been back to business for Larison through the first couple of practices. He was working with Maye extensively on Monday and currently looks like the No. 3 running back on the depth chart.
