See the full story · 1 sourcesFlorida State men's basketball is coming to Jacksonville in the non-conference Jacksonville Hoops Showdown against Houston on Dec. 20 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena.
The opening tip time remains to be announced, along with broadcast information. Chicago-based marketing agency Intersport is organizing the event. Florida played Miami in the 2025 edition.
"Games like this challenge our team, help us grow, and prepare us for the level of competition we expect to face throughout the season," Florida State coach Luke Loucks said in a statement. "It's also a great opportunity to connect with our Seminole fans in Jacksonville and throughout Northeast Florida. We know they'll create an incredible atmosphere, and we're looking forward to a great game versus a competitive opponent."
The new season is the second for Loucks, who finished 18-15 in his debut season with a 10-8 record in the ACC. The Seminoles have added numerous transfers during the off-season, headed by former Florida High guard Anthony Robinson II following his move from Missouri and former McDonald's All-American Shon Abaev from Cincinnati.
Houston, the national runner-up to Florida in 2025, finished 30-7 in 2025-26 under Kelvin Sampson and lost in the NCAA Sweet 16 to Illinois.
Although the Seminoles defeated Jacksonville University 87-63 in Tallahassee on Dec. 22, 2025, Florida State 's most recent trip to Jacksonville for men's hoops came in November 2021 with victories over Loyola Marymount and Missouri at the Jacksonville Classic.
The Cougars hold a 4-2 advantage in the all-time series against the Seminoles and won the most recent meeting 82-67 on Dec. 6, 2025.
A one-day ticket presale begins at 11 a.m. on Oct. 20, with the main public sale starting at 11 a.m. Oct. 21.
