With so much attention paid to Roma’s pursuit of a left-winger this summer, the club’s official signings, Santiago Castro and Konstantinos Koulierakis, caught us by surprise. We’ll never know when the club started pursuing that pair of U-23 standouts, but how many among us envisioned the club kicking off their transfer campaign with a striker and a center back?
Roma needed depth in those roles, sure, but investing tens of millions in those positions was still unexpected. The same cannot be said for wing-back, where the departures of Zeki Çelik and Angeliño created a vacancy at the position. However, for most of the summer, we assumed the club would focus its efforts on landing a new left-back, freeing Wesley to return to his usual spot on the right side of the pitch.
However, thanks to Wesley’s success on the left, Roma decided to go the other way, investing a reported €18 million in former Atletico Madrid right-back Nahuel Molina.

Molina, a 26-year-old wing-back from Embalse, Argentina, arrives at Roma after a four-year stint with the Colchoneros, where he made 181 appearances, scoring nine goals and providing 16 assists. Before honing his craft at the Metropolitano in Madrid, Molina cut his teeth with Udinese, scoring 10 goals in 68 appearances for the Zebrette. Molina has also been a mainstay for the Argentinian national team, making 65 appearances since 2021 and winning the 2022 World Cup with the Albiceleste.
