The White Sox have been outscored 13-1 in their last 13 innings, but they’re hoping to have a big turnaround on a date that is 13 x 2.
It will be Erick Fedde trying to avoid the downfall of predecessors Davis Martin and Sean Burke, both of whom cruised through five innings against the Astros only to ram into a wall in the sixth — a giant stone wall in the case of Martin and a lesser, wooden one for Burke, but still enough to lose the game. Fedde carries a so-so 4.16 ERA but has had a good July, allowing just four earned runs in 13 (there’s that number again) 1/3 innings while striking out — what else? — 13.
The Astros counter with 32-year old righty Ronel Blanco, who is making just his second Houston start since coming back from Tommy John surgery performed last June — a 13 (what else?) month turnaround, which is pretty quick for TJS. In his first outing Blanco held the Marlins to two hits in 4 2/3 while striking out eight, but both hits were homers, and both homers followed walks, so he sports an ERA of 7.71.
Blanco will face a White Sox lineup without Colson Montgomery, who had last night’s only RBI but has a lingering shin problem.
Fedde will be hoping that Yordan Alvarez, who is just 1-for-7 so far in the series (and that, a single) doesn’t turn back into his usual self.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. Central with mostly sunny skies and temps in mid- to upper-80s and humidity pushing the heat index into the mid-90s. Usual broadcast suspects.
