The Cleveland Browns have reportedly made a decision on who will be the starting quarterback.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter and the NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport both reported that Browns head coach Todd Monken has tapped Deshaun Watson as the starter for their first game of the season.

Rapoport went on to report that Shedeur Sanders will serve as the team’s backup.
The decision came after both Watson and Sanders saw action in the Browns’ first two preseason games.
Watson, 30, is coming off an Achilles injury that kept him off the field for the entire 2025 season.
The Browns open their season on the road in Jacksonville. They follow that up with a game at Tampa Bay before their home opener against the Carolina Panthers in Week 3.
WOIO , a CBS affiliate in Cleveland, reported that neither Watson nor Sanders will play in the Browns’ last preseason game on Thursday. Dillon Gabriel is expected to start, with Taylen Green also expected to see playing time, against New England.
