Toluca has been one of the top sides in Liga MX this campaign, sitting third on the table three matches into the 2026-27 Apertura season. Toluca has six points in three matches with two wins and one loss. The club opened its season with a 2-1 defeat at the hands of Pumas UNAM, before bouncing back with wins over Chivas de Guadalajara (2-0) and Necaxa (3-1). In the win over Necaxa, Toluca’s goal scorers were Ivan Lopez (29th minute), Everado Lopez (five minutes into first-half stoppage time) and an own goal by Necaxa’s Luis Jimenez (57th minute). Toluca also fell 3-1 to Cruz Azul on Saturday, July 25, in the Campeon de Campeones final.
The Seattle Sounders, meanwhile, are just ninth in the Western Conference standings in the MLS, with 24 points in 17 matches, courtesy of seven wins, three draws and seven losses. Most recently, Seattle fell 2-1 to its arch-rival Portland Timbers, despite a 27th-minute goal from Kalani Kossa-Rienzi. Portland responded with a 41st-minute goal by Kevin Kelsy and an 82nd-minute game-winner from Brandon Bye. The Sounders have lost six games in a row heading into tonight’s matchup with Toluca.
