See the full story · 1 sourcesRush Propst will not be taking a job with Plainview High School, contrary to multiple reports that circulated on social media on Tuesday, July 28, both Propst and Plainview assistant coach Jeremy Pruitt confirmed to The Gadsden Times.
Propst most recently led Coosa Christian to the AHSAA Class 2A state title after being named interim coach two weeks before the season.
After the season, Propst turned the job back to Mark O'Bryant, who later stepped down as offensive coordinator Alaric Williams took the reins. Propst has been out of football since then but told the Gadsden Times he will not be coaching at Plainview this year.
“I appreciate everyone’s interest and support over the years, but I want to set the record straight: I have not accepted a coaching position at Plainview or any other school," Propst wrote in a statement to The Gadsden Times. "I’ve decided to step away from the sidelines for a year to focus on mentoring quarterbacks, consulting with coaches, and launching RPO Media. This is an opportunity to share what I’ve learned over more than four decades in coaching, while helping develop the next generation of players and coaches. Football has always been my passion, and this allows me to continue making an impact in a different way."
Propst told the Gadsden Times he will be helping with quarterback training group Legacy One Performance while starting a weekly podcast called "Win the Room," talking about his career and the lessons he learned. He will also be doing consulting with high school football programs.
Some of the speculation was fueled by the transfers of 2A Player of the Year Kylen Johnson and quarterback Mac Long from Coosa Christian to Plainview. Another factor was that Pruitt worked under Propst while the latter led Hoover.

"It reenergized, it got me going. It did get me going and I feel like I have six, seven more years left in me," Propst said of this past season in December 2025 to the Gadsden Times. "I'm ready to coach."
Propst took over for the suspended O'Bryant in August before the season and led Coosa Christian to a 13-2 record and the state title. It is the eighth state title for Propst, after five at Hoover and two more in Georgia.
Propst has won more than 300 games in a 33-year career, with eight state titles. He has made 24 playoff appearances and played for 13 state titles. Alongside the winning, Propst has a checkered history, from not just his Hoover days but he left two coaching jobs in Georgia under clouds of investigations. He spent just one season at Pell City.
