The Pittsburgh Pirates are in the series finale against the Arizona Diamondbacks in a Wednesday matinee matchup at PNC Park.
Jared Jones gets the ball for the early start time. The Pirates’ second-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft is 2-1 with a 3.72 ERA so far this season. After coming off Tommy John surgery last year, in his last start against the Chicago Cubs, Jones went six innings, giving up two hits and one earned run. The Cubs pulled off a 3-2 victory at PNC Park in 10 innings.
The Buccos will face off against one of the league’s hottest pitchers in Eduardo Rodriguez, who is 9-3 with a 2.64 ERA so far this season. Rodriguez made the first All-Star team in his 11-year career this past season, as he has emerged as Arizona’s best pitcher this year. He picked up a win in his last start on July 24 against the Washington Nationals. He pitched six innings, giving up seven hits and two runs in a 3-2 victory in the nation’s capital.
It won’t be easy for the Pirates facing off against Rodriguez, but the team needs to find a way to finish off the homestand on the right foot.
