Gianni Infantino has become a very controversial figure in recent days, and he’s trying to extend his tenure as FIFA president for even longer.
There are few men in the world of soccer as unpopular as the current president of FIFA, Gianni Infantino. The Swiss executive has been in the headlines since he introduced his latest wild plan.
Infantino is currently pushing for the approval of a private investment plan, which would see the creation of a private FIFA subsidiary partly owned by investors to run the World Cup.
This plan has caused a lot of turmoil, with UEFA vocal in their opposition and discussing a potential boycott of the premier competition. But this isn’t the only Infantino idea for soccer fans to worry about.

Gianni Infantino could be FIFA president longer than the three-term limit
The FIFA presidency is capped by a three-term limit. Any one person can only be in charge for a total of three 4-year terms.
Infantino has been the top boss at FIFA since 2016, having won the presidency in 2019 and 2023. Technically, he should only be in charge for another two years. However, there is a possible loophole.
Technically, Infantino’s rise to the position came after former President Sepp Blatter stepped down. This means he has only served two terms as elected.
If this loophole is accepted, he will be able to exceed the 12-year limit. With the various allegations of serving his own interests being levelled at him, this might end up being a big issue if he chooses to pursue this avenue.
