New York Giants running back Cam Skattebo has been bullish about maintaining his wrecking-ball playing style , but he's reconsidering his backflipping habit.
Skattebo drew criticism when he failed to land a backflip at Fanatics Fest earlier this month. It wouldn't have been as big of a deal — probably just an unfortunate meme — if Skattebo hadn't undergone emergency surgery nine months prior.
"Dude, at least stick it. You know what I mean?" Giants head coach John Harbaugh said on the "Bleav in Giants" podcast on July 21, later adding, "I did mention maybe no back flips out here [at minicamp]. We agreed."
Skattebo met with Harbaugh and Giants general manager Joe Schoen for a discussion about not putting himself at risk and "doing what is best for himself and the team," per ESPN's Jordan Raanan .
"Obviously I do some dumb things here or there, but I learn from it," Skattebo said at Giants training camp this week, per Raanan. "My coach talked to me, told me how he felt. I learned from it. Will I do a backflip again? Probably not. You live and you learn and we move on."
"When game time comes around, we'll see when game time comes around," Skattebo added. "Right now, we're focused on training camp. We'll keep the backflips off the field for now."
The Giants selected Skattebo in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft, and he emerged as an impact player as a rookie before dislocating his ankle against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 8. In Harbaugh's run-heavy offense, Skattebo could take another leap this season.
