Never let it be said that Bayern Munich player Maycon Cardozo is not ambitious. During Bayern’s 2024 World Squad project, the 17-year-old consistently emphasized his goal of earning a contract at Bayern and playing for the senior team. Not only did he succeed in winning a contract to stay in Munich, Cardozo’s journey so far at Bayern has been remarkable, progressing through multiple age groups to the extent that he now has an outside chance at consolidating a place in the senior team through strong performances in the 2026 preseason.
But the Brazil and Portugal dual citizen has not limited his ambitions to club football. Cardozo has decided on the national team he wishes to represent and harbors big dreams for the future. He was invited to an interview by major digital Brazilian sports news site ge.globo and, when asked which national team he wishes to represent in the future, his answer left very little room for interpretation:
“First of all, I want to say that I have a lot of respect for both national teams. They are two great teams. Having both nationalities is very rewarding,” Cardozo stated (as captured by @iMiaSanMia ). “As a kid, I always watched Brazil, also because of Neymar, but I always supported Brazil. My dream has always been to play for Brazil, but I will always be prepared for both national teams. God willing, that moment will come when I can choose, so I will be ready.
After Brazil unfortunately lost [against Norway in the 2026 World Cup], I decided that come the next World Cup I will do everything to be prepared and to be called up. It’s a dream for all players. It’s my dream, one of the highest dreams, so God willing I will work hard, I will give my best every day so that when 2030 arrives I will be ready to be called up for the World Cup.”
Follow your heart. Brazil may offer incredibly stiff competition on the wings in Vinicius Jr., Rodrygo, Neymar, Estevão Willian and more, but it is clear that Cardozo is so eager to represent Brazil. Considering just how decisively and quickly he has overcome every obstacle so far at Bayern, seeing him play in the 2030 World Cup should not be completely out of the question.
