The update comes just over a week after Romo was arrested in Wisconsin after officers suspected him of driving drunk behind the wheel.
The NFL season kicks off in September ... so it's unclear if Romo -- who joined CBS as its lead analyst in 2017 -- will return from leave before Week 1. The network enlisted future Hall of Famer J.J. Watt to replace the former Dallas Cowboys star in his absence.
Officers first pulled Romo over for a traffic violation on July 23 ... but things took a turn during the stop.
As we previously reported, Romo initially told an officer he had zero drinks before leaving the golf course in Milwaukee and was on his way to visit "grandma and grandpa."
The 46-year-old performed poorly on multiple field sobriety tests ... and an officer stated he had "red glassy eyes" and an "odor of an intoxicating alcoholic beverage."
Romo refused to take a breathalyzer ... claiming he was often told by lawyers to never submit to one. He's at risk of losing his license for a year as a result.
A warrant was later issued for Romo's blood sample and chemical analysis, according to CBS.
Romo was also cited for an open container ... with officials stating Romo had an open bottle of an alcoholic beverage in the passenger side of his Jeep at the time of his arrest.
He has yet to publicly comment on the matter ... but has since backed out of a scheduled appearance at a tournament in Texas this week.
Romo is in the middle of a massive 10-year, $180 million contract with CBS ... which runs through 2030.
