Can the Mets carry over their momentum as they take on the AL Central upstart White Sox this weekend?
The Mets carry a run of two straight series victories and 11 wins out of 15 since the trade deadline as they face the division leaders at 7:40 p.m. Friday night at Rate Field in Chicago.
The Mets (58-70) are coming off a gritty 4-2 victory over the Padres, with Carson Benge supplying a two-run home run and Jared Young provided key eighth-inning insurance with an RBI double.
After sweeping the Tigers to gain some separation in the AL Central, the White Sox (66-61) dropped two out of three against the Cubs and a makeup game against the Braves. Every game is important for the South Siders, who hold a 3.5 game advantage over the Twins for the top spot in the Central.
NY Mets, White Sox probable starting pitchers for Friday game
Sean Manaea was cruising last time out against the Nationals until he surrendered a three-run home run to Brady House in the seventh inning. The blast cost Manaea a fourth straight quality start as he allowed four earned runs in 6⅓ innings but he settled for a no-decision after the Mets grabbed a walkoff win.
Manaea enters his 13th start and 27th appearance with a 4-5 record, 4.22 ERA and 1.32 WHIP with 113 strikeouts in 111 innings.
The White Sox will have Sean Burke on the mound for Friday's start. The 26-year-old right-hander is 7-6 with a 3.15 ERA, 1.11 WHIP and 154 strikeouts in 140 innings this season. He was tagged for four earned runs on five hits and three walks in 4⅓ innings against the Tigers last time out.
