Shelley Fabares -- best known for starring on "The Donna Reed Show" and "Coach" -- has died ... TMZ has confirmed.
The actress died Saturday in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones, according to her family.
Her family remembered Shelley as a source of "love, strength, laughter, and comfort" ... calling her a devoted wife, cherished stepmother and loyal friend whose warmth, generosity and humor touched the people around her.
They also reflected on her career ... saying millions knew Shelley as a beloved actress whose work became part of the fabric of American television and film.
Shelley became a household name playing Mary Stone on "The Donna Reed Show" ... and even scored a No. 1 hit in 1962 with "Johnny Angel."
She also starred opposite Elvis Presley in three films -- "Girl Happy," "Spinout" and "Clambake" -- before later finding another major TV role as Christine Armstrong on "Coach."
Her family says that despite all the success, Shelley's greatest legacy was personal ... "the love she gave so freely, the friendships she treasured, and the family bonds she held dear."
They added they'll remember her for her "kindness, loyalty, wit, courage and beautiful spirit" ... saying they're heartbroken by her loss, but grateful for the years they shared with her.
She is survived by her husband, "M*A*S*H" star Mike Farrell, and her stepchildren.
