Red Sox Explain Reason Behind Caleb Durbin's Rare Day Off

The Boston Red Sox third baseman has overcome a dreadful start to the season to become one of the team's best players and, indeed, one of MLB 's best third basemen since May. Not only has Durbin provided dazzling defense and a steady bat in the lineup, he's also suited up almost every day for the rolling Red Sox.
So when Durbin wasn't in Sunday's lineup against the Athletics , it raised some brief concern.
Red Sox interim manager Chad Tracy allayed those concerns swiftly.
"Just a day," Tracy told reporters, according to MassLive's Christopher Smith. "That's part of the guys that we've been kind of running into the ground. You're going through this stretch and you feel like, hot day game, one of those guys I need to get off their feet."
Tracy named centerfielder Ceddanne Rafaela and shortstop Andruw Monasterio as players who will need a rest at some point, too.
Durbin has been a horse, appearing in 109 of 116 games entering Sunday. He's pushed his OPS to .728, which is remarkable considering he slashed .172/.261/.263 in March and April. Given what he's contributed to the Red Sox's cause, a reassessment might be in order for the offseason trade that brought Durbin, Monasterio and Anthony Seigler to Boston from the Milwaukee Brewers.
Now, Red Sox fans only have to hope Tracy is telling the truth, and that Durbin doesn't become the latest victim of Boston's increasing habit of downplaying absences that are later revealed to be far more serious.
